Our 70/20/10 Approach
Based on our research, the asset allocation of a portfolio accounts for 70% of investment returns, sub-asset for 20%, and individual stock selection for 10%.
Asset Allocation 70%
We base a portfolio’s stock, bond, cash, and other asset mix on an investor’s financial goals and needs. We then use macroeconomic information to tactically modify asset allocation to correspond with our market forecast. For this purpose, we evaluate economic, political, and sentiment forces. We consider asset allocation the primary decision because it most affects returns.
Sub-Asset Allocation 20%
We filter a list of potential investments according to attributes like geography, industry, and style. To ascertain which groups are most likely to perform well, we integrate historical data with projections. And, to ensure sufficient diversification, we also create a counter strategy including exposure to sectors we don’t anticipate performing well near term.
Security Selection 10%
In order to choose individual stocks that align with our sub-asset allocation criteria, we perform fundamental analysis. The first two steps establish a framework for determining which securities to evaluate.
Top-Down Approach
Time has proven that our top-down investment strategy is crucial to our clients’ superior investment returns. Our investment approach begins with an analysis of global geopolitics, economic statistics and sentiment to forecast financial market conditions and identify investment themes. We feel that this methodology enables us to find and capitalize on the best possible investments.

To begin, your long-term objectives should guide your investment strategy. A well-designed portfolio should be tailored to your own financial circumstances. Because each investor is unique, there is no one-size-fits-all formula for the optimal asset mix. It all comes down to your own financial objectives, demands, and risk tolerance.
